Signed and dated bottom centre (on the plan of the fortification): H. de Quitter/ f. Ao 1729 (the last digit is barely legible). Herman Hendrik de Quitter II (d. 1731?) was court painter to the court of the landgraves of Hesse-Kassel. Wilhelm VIII (1682–1760), Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, commander in the Netherlands 1699–1748, regent 1730, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel 1751, Field Marshal of the imperial army. He is shown wearing the Polish Order of the White Eagle awarded in 1723.
