Bust of Michał Kazimierz Pac

Le Brun, André (1737-1811) (sculptor)
ZKW/3393
The depiction of Michał Kazimierz Pac with hair shaved high up on temples and naked torso was part of the Royal Castle’s historic collections. Alongside the sculptures of Chronos and Fame, as well as a series of bronze busts of famous Polish personages and the painted decoration, it constitutes the iconographic scheme for the Knights’ Hall which was furnished in the years 1781–6 and was intended to commemorate distinguished individuals as well as glorious events in Polish history. The sculpture is one of 18 smaller busts that were placed in the Knights’ Hall. Inscribed Pac on front, under the bust Inscribed MICHAEL PAC / + MDCLXXXII. in gold letters on front of base Michał Kazimierz Pac of the Gozdawa coat of arms (d. 1682). Son of Piotr, Voivode of Troki and Elżbieta née Szemioth. Voivode of Smoleńsk (Smolensk, Russia) from 1663, Castellan of Vilnius and Lithuanian Great Hetman from 1667, Voivode of Vilnius from 1669.
