Beneath the oval is a tondo surmounted with a crown and a scene of the Battle of Kalisz, which took place on 29 October 1706. The King is shown on a rearing horse turned towards the left, with the army in the background. At the bottom there is rich decoration with drapery and leaves; on the left are a club and ouroboros and on the right a mirror and sceptre. The Battle of Kalisz was one of the largest in the third Northern War. It was between the armies of Sweden and the allied Saxon, Russian and Polish forces who supported August II. Therefore it is shown on the engraving for propaganda purpose, emphasizing August II’s victory over Charles XII of Sweden.
