This piece was bequeathed to the Royal Castle by Tadeusz Wierzejski in 1974. The plate is one of 280 pieces from a service which King Stanisław August gave as a gift to Abdul Hamid I, Sultan of Turkey, in 1777. This can be seen in the inscription in Turkish, which appears in the rim around the mirror (in translation): “This present and gift is sent to the Padishah of the Imperial House of Osman by the King of the Lechs to express his fullest love and sincere benevolence. In the capital city of Warsaw". A fragment of this services can be found in the Museum of the Old Seraglio in Istanbul, and individual items are in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and the National Museums in Warsaw and Kraków in Poland. There are two dishes belonging to the Ciechanowiecki Foundation that are exhibited in the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
