Signed and dated twice Kucharsky/fecit en 1794, bottom left and above the sitter's right shoulder. It is a pendant to the portrait of his sister, the Madame Royale (ZKW/298). The Prince Royal wears a grey-green satin coat, the blue riband of the French Order of the Holy Spirit over the right shoulder under the coat, the breast star of this Order on the chest, a miniature badge of the French Order of St Louis on a red ribbon on the breast to the left. This image of the young Louis XVII by Aleksander Kucharski is known from many copies, both autograpf replicas and copies by other artists. The present portrait is an autograph replica.
