Wine glass

Huta Kryształowa (Lubaczów ; 1717-ca-1800) (wytwórnia)
ZKW/198
The glassware (wine glass ZKW/198 and decanter ZKW/197) was bequeathed to the Royal Castle by Tadeusz Wierzejski in 1974. According to tradition, the glassware came from a set which the Radziwiłł family gave on the occasion of the wedding of Zofia Potocka née Mniszech; it was made in the Naliboki-Urzecze glassworks [now in Belarus]. An analysis of the glass confirmed it was made in the Lubaczów area and the decoration also attests to this, while archival records show the glassware was commissioned for Józefa Amalia’s father, Jerzy August Mniszech. The glass is dated after 1742, when Mniszech began working as Marshal of the Court, as indicated by the staffs of office which appear among the background of panoplies. The glass is probably part of a small set of glassware used when travelling which can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Poznań, the National Museum in Kraków, the Museum in Wilanów, the Karkonoskie Museum and in the private collection of Ryszard Janiak.
